At 17h00 today, I could hear from the speakers at the WHO Doctor Keiji Fukuda Press Briefings on the World Wide Impacts of the new H1N1 virus.
First he said that observing what happenned in what he called Countries in Transition Phase , who are those that see’s H1N1 infections from tourists, …, well they now have Community H1N1 transmission. He gave as examples; UK, Spain. Japan, Australia, Chili.. and that means that we are heading to a dclaration of Phase 6 of WHO wich is a World Wide Pandemic.
He said that long and intense discussion leads to a consensus of the needof a severity scale and National Pandemic Response Implementation as much Tailored as possible.
These are and will vary trough time, depending of the situation.
As for severity it will probably be define as Mild, Moderate and Severe.
As for National Responses, some fine Tuning still to be done.
The manifestation of the Furious illness from H1N1 the age average is between 20 and 40 yrs old.
We are amist an unusual situation, we have an influenza that has manifest itself at the end of the Northern influenza season and have an unusual average age for furious illness.
He said that they will have very close eyes on the situation in the Southern Hemisphere where seasonnial influenza is beginning and where h1n1 is now present.
It indeed has few elements of the manifestation of a pandemic.
